I'm filming an online course of complete Lynyrd Skynyrd song lessons — the guitar work of Allen Collins, Gary Rossington, Steve Gaines and Ed King, taught the way it was actually played, so the legacy of their playing is preserved instead of approximated. Enrollment is closed while I film. Leave your email and you'll be first to know the day it opens.

Why this exists
Skynyrd's guitar work gets handed down through watered-down covers and half-remembered versions, losing a little more every time it changes hands. This isn't about how close I can get. It's about documenting these songs properly, from as close to the source as anyone can still get, so the players who come next can have them.
Full Lynyrd Skynyrd song lessons, filmed properly. You learn the song as it was actually played — not a simplified arrangement of it.
The guitar work of the men who wrote it. What each of them was doing, and what makes each of them sound like nobody else.
The level of detail tribute players come looking for — the things you only learn from the stage, and from the people who were there.
Who's teaching
Tom's Rockin' Guitar started in 2018 to do one thing — preserve Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitar work and hand it to the next generation of players.
I don't just teach this music, I play it. I've shared the stage with Second Helping, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute act, and I've talked with members of Lynyrd Skynyrd themselves — and before any of that, toured in a country-rock band. That's where the details come from: the ones that never make it into a transcription.
That's what the course is. Complete songs, filmed properly, at the level tribute players come looking for — so this music survives intact for whoever picks it up next.
“My goal is to preserve Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitar playing and pass it on — exactly as it was played — for future generations of guitarists to enjoy.”
— Tom
