Hell House, 1970

The way they were meant to be played.

Free Bird, Simple Man and Gimme Three Steps were built in a shack with no air conditioning twenty miles outside Jacksonville — the one they called Hell House — by men who showed up at sunup and worked through the Florida heat until dark. Getting the parts right isn't fussiness. It's how the songs were meant to sound, and it's the only honest way to pay back the hours that went into them.

Who's teaching

I'm Tom.

Tom's Rockin' Guitar started in 2018 to do one thing — preserve Lynyrd Skynyrd's guitar work and hand it to the next generation of players.

I don't just teach this music, I play it. I've shared the stage with Second Helping, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute act, and I've talked with members of Lynyrd Skynyrd themselves — and before any of that, toured in a country-rock band. That's where the details come from: the ones that never make it into a transcription.

That's what the course is. Complete songs, filmed properly, at the level tribute players come looking for — so this music survives intact for whoever picks it up next.
